I am proud to join the ACS middle school team this year. The American Community School of Abu Dhabi has a strong reputation among international schools, characterized by a wonderful team of committed educators, involved parents, and most importantly, engaged and inspired students.
Between the ages of 10 and 14, children experience tremendous physical, social and cognitive growth. While we are first and foremost an academic institution, ACS takes great care to help students reach their full potential as their minds, bodies and social circles expand. Our classes and programs are designed in such a way as to allow students to work cooperatively, problem-solve, apply new learning and participate in a wide range of academic, artistic and athletic endeavors. This is evident in our encore choices including general music, band, musical theater, drama, dance, painting, robotics and more. Students also have the choice of studying French, Spanish or Arabic as their foreign language.
The ACS campus is just as busy after school, and our middle school staff provides engaging extra curricular activities for our students. These "Fun After School" activities include an intramural sports program divided into distinct seasons, as well as a variety of clubs and activities. Some examples of these include the middle school newspaper - the Viper Vision, drama clubs, quiz clubs, robotics, choir, middle school productions, guitar club, National Junior Honor Society and an annual film festival and photography contest.
One of the highlights of our middle school program is our Week Without Walls. Each year, our students pack up and head off on an international trip that is directly linked to our curriculum. Our 6th grade continues their study of ancient civilizations, visiting many of the Greek ruins surrounding the Turkish town of Selcuk, while our 7th graders learn about culture and geology in Cappadocia, Turkey. Our 8th graders head to Chang Mai, Thailand, and gather information that is compiled into travelogues about their experiences in a different culture. As students turn these unique settings into their own personal classrooms, their experiences become an inspired week of learning.
As you can see, our middle school is a busy and vibrant place. Please feel free to stop by for a visit, browse this website for more information or contact us should you have questions about our school.
