Our Students

Reflecting one of our core values that "diversity with respect is a strength", the 991 students at ACS represent 52 different nationalities of which American (57%), Canadian (7%), and U.A.E. (3%) nationalities are most prevalent. Enrollment is open to all English-speaking students who are likely to be able to successfully complete a challenging college preparatory American curriculum.

The 426 students in our KGI through fifth grade enjoy learning in small classes that are conducted in an elementary school facility that was completed in 2001. Our 236 sixth through eighth-grade middle school students have their own physical space on campus with each grade level having a distinct area. Our 329 high school students in grades nine through twelve take time out from a challenging academic program to compete in local or regional sports competitions, perform in school plays, or exhibit their art work at school.

Our People

An eight-member Board of Trustees governs the American Community School of Abu Dhabi. Trustees are non-employee members of the American Community School Association and are elected by the Association membership. The Association membership includes parents, administrators, faculty and staff. The Board elects its own officers consisting of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The standing committees of the Board are Policy, Curriculum, Finance, and Building. The Board meets monthly in open session during the school year.
Our administration team includes a superintendent and three principals. They are supported by four Counselors, a High School Assistant Principal, a Finance Director, Activities Director, Public Relations Officer, Facilities manager, and Registrar in addition to faculty and support staff.

ACS faculty members are dedicated professionals who have learned to work together in teams to develop and deliver the curriculum. ACS employs 115 instructional staff members, some of whom are part time, resulting in an overall student/teacher ratio of 9:1. Approximately two-thirds of ACS faculty members have Master's degrees.

Faculty and staff are actively involved in sponsoring numerous after school activities that enhance students’ experiences at school. ACS offers  its students a variety of academic, musical, dramatic, artistic, recreational, technological, and athletic activities scheduled after school and on weekends.

Our parents are highly supportive of the school and are deeply involved in activities such as assisting in classroom activities, booster club, seasonal events, and intramural sports. A thriving parent volunteer program is also a trademark of the school. Both staff members and parents are actively engaged in sponsoring and coaching a number of after school programs. The school encourages students to be involved in after school programs and the support of faculty and community members makes this possible.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum at ACS is an enriched, college preparatory program that is comparable to high quality schools in the United States. Based on U.S. standards, it is an integrated K-12 curriculum that is reviewed annually and updated on a five-year cycle. The development of a well-aligned and relevant curriculum and the implementation of sound instructional practices contribute to the academic success of ACS students.
In addition to traditional core courses provided in an American school, ACS offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma and Certificate options in the high school for 11th and 12th grade students, an integrated technology curriculum, a wide selection of elective courses in the middle school and high school, various fine arts options, and service opportunities for students. ACS graduates have an impressive record for college acceptances and standardized test scores.

Our Community

The United Arab Emirates is a 31-year old federation of seven emirates. Abu Dhabi, the largest of the seven emirates, occupies 87% of UAE's 83,600 sq. km area. The island city of Abu Dhabi within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is the country’s capital. The population of UAE is just over six million inhabitants of which an estimated 80% are expatriates.

While oil and gas exports are the mainstay of the economy, the government has been successful in gradually diversifying the economy to reduce dependence on oil. The UAE is a clean, safe, and modern country with many recreational opportunities available for residents.
Abu Dhabi is a highly developed cosmopolitan city with excellent roads and infrastructure, numerous gardens, modern high-rise buildings, shopping malls, and beautiful beaches. The large multinational expatriate community enjoys a pleasant environment including many western shops, restaurants, services, and cultural events.

Wise government leadership has enabled UAE to remain a stable and prosperous country where people of many nationalities live and work together in peace and harmony. For additional information on the history, culture and way of life in the United Arab Emirates, please visit the following links:
